Project III: INTERPRETATION & REPRESENTATION

The final project incorporates all the terms that I have learned from project 1 & project II. It is a product of deconstruction and development of project II model, which is 20 m3 in size and with scale of 1:10. Upon completion of this project, I have learnt to create a conceptual narrative in relation to sensory, stages of experience through different user journey as well as the spatial quality.  Moreover, I have improved my presentation drawings by applying hatching technique learned from Design Communication.

Design Intention

The design intention is to create a vibrant space that giving a sense of life can be energetic, interesting and colourful.

Different spaces and levels of the structure represent our life journey, sometimes high (excitement) while sometimes low (dull).

  • Foster a healthy posture

  • Prevent hunched back or backpain

  • Body form a straight line to exercise abdominal muscle

  • "Cat-Cow Pose"

  • Strengthen back &neck muscle

  • Regulate breathing

User Journey

Picture20.jpg
  • The design intention to create a vibrant & energetic life can be achieved through these body movements.

  • Moving up by climbing stairs & moving down by sliding is a metaphor of the up & down in our life.

Experience of Different Spaces

OPENED-SPACE

  • exposed to morning sunlight

  • this place suitable for morning time as the morning sunlight is less hotter compared to sunlight in the noon

ENCLOSED-SPACE

  • surrounded by timber planes that give a calming effect to relieve stress

  • provided a sense of nature due to the materiality of timber

SEMI-ENCLOSED SPACE

  • this seating area is designed to allow body to face east side so that sunlight will not reach directly towards our face & eyes in the afternoon

Picture20.jpg
Picture29.jpg

SHADY SPACE

  • partial light penetrates through slanted light shaft to ease focusing on work

  • feeling cool as light is blocked from reaching the seating area

  • Different spaces are symbolism of our life journey,                                                                  sometimes we enjoy socializing with the public (opened space);                               sometimes we prefer privacy and so indulge in our own world (enclosed space);     sometimes we balance up our social time to have personal time (semi-enclosed space).

Sensorial:  Light & Shadow

  • Various height of vertical plane is designed to create intriguing shadows

  • Light source from various angle to play with the effect of shadows

  • Different layer of shadows giving sense of rhythm

Materials

1) CONCRETE - hard, high tensile strength, can be pre-casted in particular shape

2) TIMBER - giving the feeling of warmer & cosier

3) DICHROID GLASS - giving sense of colourful & wonderful

  • a glass which reflects light into various colour that depends on the time of the day

  • can block harsh radiation, unlike other translucent materials

Design Elements & Principles

SHAPE + RHYTHM

  • different size & thickness of p-shape illustrates the rhythm

  • various height of vertical linear panel depicts the rhythm flow of up and down
